January Guild Meeting

January 2010 Guild Meeting

What a way to kick off the new year! We packed the house for our January 2010 guild meeting to near capacity. According to member Sheila Igoe, the word is out...our Guild rocks!

Let's Meet the New Board of Directors!

Presenting the 2010 Board of Directors

Left to right: Beth Callahan & Cindi Unmack/dual Vice Presidents, Emy Aricioglu/Secretary, Babarara Debert/Treasurer, Lizette Hopkins/President and Doris Keller/Membership. (Not photographed Jude Tarrant/dual membership position).

Let's hear it for the 2010 Board of Directors!

President Lizette Hopkins

New President Lizette Hopkins opened the January meeting with a great statement " keep knitting...we have to keep our craft alive." A great saying to begin the year for the guild and to remind us what our guild is all about.

Community Service Knitting

Veterans Lap Robe

Community Service knitting programs are near and dear to the Stockinette's hearts. We have many dedicated knitters who generously knit items for Preemie Babies, Chemo Caps for cancer patients and Veterans Lap Robes.

We encourage all members to volunteer and knit for community service. If you are unable to knit items you can always donate yarn to the guild for other members to knit. Acrylic and machine washable yarns are best. More information is available on our web site.

Synergex Hat Drive

We are so pleased to report that nearly 100 Chemo Caps have been donated by the Stockinettes to our special community service project, Chemo Caps for Synergex. This special hat drive is a way for the Stockinettes to say "thank you" to our local business Synergex. Synergex generously donates the use of their office space for us to hold our Tuesday Night programs in.

Synergex's President/CEO Michele Wong is on the National Board of Directors for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. We couldn't think of a better way to show our appreciation than by knitting chemo caps to donate to Synergex for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. The hats will be presented to Michele Wong and Synergex within the next month or so.

Monthly Challenge

Fingerless Mitts Monthly Challenge

Did you take the November Monthly Challenge and knit up some Fingerless Mitts? Many Stockinettes enjoyed this monthly challenge and gave pairs of mitts away at Christmas time.

It's always fun to see how various members take a pattern and make it their own. Many Stockinettes took the basic Fingerless Mitt pattern suggested and added cables and beads. And yes, our one needle knitter (crocheter) Kendal even crocheted a pair! Great job ladies!

Come Sit and Knit with Us!

We love to knit!

2010 is sure to be another exiting year for our Guild with over 215 members and growing. President Lizette Hopkins said "the bar was set pretty high last year." We look forward to Lizette's leadership and exciting things for the Guild in 2010!

Beth Callahan and Cindy Unmack announced it will be another exciting year for the Stockinette workshops. Already on the agenda is a Modular Lace Workshop with Amy Singer, the editor of Rumour has it...there will be a Lorna Miser workshop, too.

Mark your calendars...yes, there will be another exciting Knitting Retreat in South Lake Tahoe in October 2010.

If you are an existing member we hope to see you at Guild Meetings and Guild Events this year.

If you are not a member and would like to "keep knitting and keep our craft alive" we hope you will be our guest at our next meeting and join our guild, The Camellia City Stockinettes!
