Thank you!

A little bit of a hiatus on the blog here.  I accidentally locked myself out and it took awhile to restore everything.  But, we're back and off to a good start to 2013 with new digs for our meeting space.  We've got free lighted parking, plenty of space to spread out, wifi, and heating and air conditioning!  What more could we want?  New meeting space for both the meeting on the first Thursday of the month and the program meetings on the following Monday take place at Christ Community Church, 5025 Manzanita Ave., Carmichael.

I received a nice thank you note from the Mustard Seed School thanking us for the mountain of gifts we  collected at the Holiday Party.  Nice job, Stockinettes.

A big thank you was given to last year's board by our President Doris at the February meeting.  Thank you ladies for a job well done.  We know this year's board will give their all as well.

Our charity efforts got off to a good start this year.  Member Cindi was asked by a friend if her knitting guild would knit a few hats for a homeless program they were leading.  Cindi put out the word and here's what happens when you ask our Guild for a "few hats".

Our Secret Pal program continues in popularity.  Stockinettes post their thanks on the Yahoo group and the goodies that they get sound wonderful.  And the packaging always looks so tempting.

How's your personal fiber challenge coming for 2013?  Jude is on her way to knitting a nativity scene piece by piece so that it will be done by next year.  Can't wait to see Joseph.  Quite a few beautiful afghans in progress were displayed at the meeting.

If you need help or support in your challenge visit the Camellia City Stockinettes group on Ravelry.  We've got a thread started there for discussions and questions.

See you at Stitches?  Quite a few Stockinettes are taking the train from Sacramento.  There is a 1/2 off train ticket offer for the weekend.  See the Ravelry group or the Yahoo group for details.  Happy knitting (or crocheting.  You know who you are.)

And perfect weather and a perfect place to gather.  The display will be up until the end of June so please come on by if you haven't had a chance yet.  One of our members, Debra P. has posted a You Tube Video Here  Thank you, Debra!  That's cool.

Bombs Away!

It's starting to look like a proper yarn bombing.  Several Stockinettes gathered today to start installing our collective fiber pieces at the Discovery Museum.  Here's a picture of the fence being assembled from yards and yards and yards of 7-inch squares that will later be turned into lapghans.

Other installations were to be seen tucked away in the redwoods.

"All Dressed Up and No Place to Go"

"Birds of a Fiber"

And from the Fiber Fairies, "Jungle Fiber"

Be sure to come out next Saturday, June 9th at 10 AM to help with the rest of the installation of the fence (flowers to be added) and to participate in Knit In Public Day here at the Museum, located at 3615 Auburn Blvd. in Sacramento.  There's parking and lots of trees for shade, picnic tables, bathrooms.  What more could you want for Knit in Public Day?  Bring chairs, your lunch, and maybe some snacks to share and your knitting of course.  See you there.  Thanks to Beth for the idea of the yarn bombing and to Lucky Lisa for coordinating everything and to all the strippers out there who knit strips and flowers.  Good job, Stockinettes (and Fiber Fairies).

Giving Thanks!

Beth Callahan, Michele Wong Synergex President & CEO,
Cindi Unmack & Lizette Hopkins

Thank you, Synergex!

by Beth Callahan

It’s very hard to think of a way to thank a company as generous as Synergex. For the past several years, Synergex has allowed the Camellia City Stockinettes Knitting Guild to use corporate meeting spaces for guild project nights and workshops.

Since knitters like to give back to the community with knitted projects, they decided to make a donation of knitted chemo caps -- on behalf of Synergex – to one of Synergex’s corporate charities, The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. Michele Wong, Synergex President & CEO, is a national LLS board member, and her husband Tony is a local LLS board member.

The Stockinettes created over 100 caps of differing shapes, sizes, colors, and patterns – some for men, some for women, and some suitable for teens and children. Created of the softest, most cloud-like fibers, the caps are intended to cover and sooth the tender scalps of patients undergoing hair loss due to chemotherapy.

Current Stockinettes president Lizette Hopkins presented the hat collection on behalf of herself, last year’s president Lorna Miser, and grateful Sacramento knitters to Michele Wong. Stockinettes co-vice presidents Cindi Unmack and Beth Callahan were also in attendance. Michele accepted the hats, and will personally deliver them to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society patient services team.

Cindi Unmack said it best...
"It made me so proud of the Guild to see all those hats!"
